Welcome from the Head of School!
Episcopal School of Jacksonville exists to serve. While students here experience an exciting curriculum that provides opportunities for interdisciplinary studies, independent study and self-directed research, they also learn to be passionate about learning and about the “human condition.” ESJ’s faculty and staff are devoted teachers, mentors and coaches. We take infinite care over the students entrusted to us. We plan not only for their progress but also that they learn to become servant leaders in a world that very much needs their talents.ESJ has a beautiful, welcoming campus. Our facilities, from the Walton Boathouse to the newly-constructed Parks and Lastinger Halls and the beautiful Munnerlyn Center for Worship and Fine Arts, provide our teachers and coaches with perfect backdrops in which to instruct students. Our Great Oak stands at our campus center, and has spread its branches over three generations of ESJ students.Daily life here is a steady stream of learning, dancing, running, swimming, singing, volunteering and playing. Excellence is expected of our students, and honesty and integrity are integral parts of their Episcopal experience. Our School is a lively one – rare is the week without multiple sporting events, fine arts performances, club meetings, community service opportunities or a Chapel service. In addition to academics, we know that athletics, fine arts, and spiritual growth are vital to developing a next generation leaders. We also believe that true accomplishments are never achieved without honorable conduct, whether on the stage, in the classroom or on the field.Being an Episcopal student is not easy; success does not always come on first attempts. Along the way, ESJ coaches, staff, faculty, advisors – our family – are there for our students with encouragement and support. The best way to “know” Episcopal is to come and to see for yourself. Walk our halls, stand under our Great Oak, and sit quietly in our Barnett Garden or Davis Chapel. Come cheer at a game or applaud after a performance. Something different happens here! I promise you will not be disappointed.
