  • First Episcopal School Chaplain Passes Away

    The Rt. Reverend Dr. Bertram Nelson, the 10th Episcopal Bishop of Tennessee, passed away Friday, October 21. Bishop Herlong served as Canon Pastor of St. John's Cathedral, Jacksonville, and as founding Chaplain and Assistant Headmaster of Jacksonville Episcopal High School, now Episcopal School of Jacksonville. In 1993 he was elected tenth Bishop of the Diocese of Tennessee and was ordained and consecrated on June 26, 1993, in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. Bishop Herlong was married for 54 years to Barbara Ann Vickers. He is survived by two daughters, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

    Texas Instruments Education Technology recently invited Beth Smith, Episcopal’s Coordinator of Instructional Technology and Math and Technology instructor, to appear live on WJXT, News4Jax. The station wanted a local educator to appear on the weekend morning show and share tips for students getting ready to go back to math class, and how parents can help ease any student concerns. Ms. Smith’s interview is available to view online.

  • Episcopal Celebrates Chinese New Year

    Episcopal celebrated Chinese New Year during Chapel this week, with a traditional lion dance by Jacksonville area performers, and a presentation by Chinese instructor Jennifer Dulaney and her husband, Mr. Dave Dulaney, in which they explained various Chinese characters, shared Chinese words with students, and explained the significance of the Chinese New Year.

  • History Classes Participate in Voter Registration Drive

    Episcopal History Department faculty and their 10th, 11th and 12th grade classes are participating in a countywide effort sponsored by the Duval County Supervisor of Elections to register high school students to vote. To pre-register to vote, students must be at least age 16 and have a driver’s license. When these students turn 18, they will automatically receive their voter registration card.

  • Marion Zeiner Wins National Teacher-Engineer Partnership Award

    Episcopal Science instructor Marion Zeiner has won The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Pre-college Education Committee Educator-Engineer Partnership Award! The award “recognizes collaborative activities between K-12 educators and technical professionals who are IEEE members,” states the IEEE website. Ms. Zeiner is the only instructor in the country to receive this award. She has been working for many years with students and Butch Shadwell, a Beaches area resident and professional engineer, who also is involved with the regional science fair.

    In the sunlight of a beautiful fall morning, Episcopal parents and friends gathered at Deerwood Country Club for the School’s annual Golf & Tennis Tournament. The ladies tennis doubles teams first participated in an upbeat warm up with parent and tennis pro Bill Gist.
