Clubs & Activities

Below is a list of descriptions for clubs and activities offered at Episcopal. Clubs that are open only to Middle School or Upper School students are listed separately. All other clubs are open to both Middle and Upper School students. Please see the clubs and activities calendar posted on the website for specific meeting times and places.

Middle School

8th Grade Girls Bible Study

Organized Bible study for any 8th grade girl. Sponsors: Mrs. Bast, Mrs. Pajcic

Middle School Bible Study

This Bible study is open to all middle school students. Sponsor: Mr. Day

Middle School Dance Ensembles

Students will audition for placement in September and then start rehearsing after school from 3:30-5:30 pm on Mondays or Tuesdays, depending on the ensemble in which they are placed. Students audition in ballet, modern, and jazz. Dancers will perform during different school programs throughout the year.  Sponsor: Ms. McCaughan

Middle School Drama Club

This club supports drama at Episcopal and provides a theatre experience for both members and audience through theatre games, improvisation, acting, and musical theatre. Sponsor: Ms. Horne

Middle School Chapel Band

Middle school students meet weekly to prepare music for middle school Chapel. Sponsor: Mr. Bowers

Middle School Math Competitions

This club prepares students for three math competitions during the school year. It meets weekly and the competitions are on weekends. Sponsor: Ms. Shea, Mr. Collins 

Middle School Reading Club

This club is all about reading for fun! It provides avid readers with the opportunity to share and compare books they are currently reading, as well as to recommend books to others. Members will enjoy breakfast and lively discussion. Sponsor: Ms. Oulton

Middle School Techies

Learn the ins and outs of technical theatre including the fly system, painting and construction techniques, lighting and sound, and how to run a show. Sponsor: Ms. Elsila

Upper School

Best Buddies

Best Buddies is a national organization that pairs students in grades 9-12 with adults who have disabilities. The club meets during upper school lunch. Sponsor: Ms. Dulieu

Brain Brawl

Brain Brawl is a team involved in academic competition with other local high schools, both public and private. It is open to anyone in grades 9-12. The team practices once a week during lunch. Sponsors: Ms. Ferlisi, Ms. Kneale-Tippins 

Community Service Council

This organization is composed of upper school students who want to help organize a wide variety of community service projects presented to Episcopal. Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Cum Laude Society

This honor society recognizes students in grades 11 and 12 who have distinguished themselves on a basis of the society motto, “Excellence, Justice, and Honor.” Membership is by invitation only (see the Parent/Student Handbook for admissions criteria.)  Sponsor: Mr. Brozowski

Debate Club

This club will introduce students to the art of debate. It will focus on how to argue effectively. Sponsor: Mr. Kress

Delta Epsilon Phi

Delta Epsilon Phi is a national education honorary fraternity in the study of high school German and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German. To be eligible for induction, students must have completed three semesters of German, at least one of which must have been in the upper school. The inductees must have attained an average of A- in German and a B overall average during their study of German. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard

Dominican Republic Club

This club meets monthly to plan activities that will support an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.  This club is open to students in grades 9-12. Sponsors: Ms. Marks, Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Dreams Come True Club

This club raises money to help children with terminal diseases make their dreams come true. Sponsor: Ms. Daraskevich

Drumline

The Episcopal Drumline is a Corp style unit consisting of snare drums, tenor drums (quads), bass drums, and cymbals. Music reading ability is helpful but not required. The Drumline performs for various events at school and in the community. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Freshman Orientation Adventure Counselors

This group is open to students in grades 11 and 12 only. They must complete an application to become a counselor on this camping trip. Sponsors: Ms. Zeiner, Ms. Connery 

German Competition Team

This is a club that prepares students for the Florida Association of Students of German Competition held in Daytona Beach each year. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard 

Great Decisions/World Affairs Club

This club is composed of upper school students interested in developing ideas to help tackle current issues involving world affairs. They are exposed to different speakers and they prepare for competitions that challenge their ideas. Sponsor: Ms. Andrews

Green Club

This club is composed of upper school students who want to help the Episcopal community become more energy efficient. They have planted a community garden next to the Buck Center. Sponsor: Ms. Cooper

International Club

The purpose of this club is to educate and help people become appreciative of all cultures. The club meets once a month to have lunch together and learn about different cultures.  There is a fee for lunch. Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

International Thespian Society/Upper School Drama Club

The Episcopal School of Jacksonville chapter, troupe 1187, is active in this international society. This club is for students who are involved in the theatre classes and/or after school theatre-related activities.  Inducted thespians and hopeful thespians gather in this campus club to work together on publicity, projects, and other details of the theatre program such as district and state competitions.  Sponsor:  Ms. Black

Key Club

This community service club meets twice a month to participate in activities to help the Jacksonville community. There is a $10 membership fee. Sponsor: Mr. Thrift

Media Production Club

This club is for upper school students who are interested in producing media packages for campus events. Also, they will have copyrighted movie screenings for students. Sponsors: Ms. Bates, Ms. Horne

Mu Alpha Theta

This math honor society promotes scholarship in and the enjoyment of understanding mathematics.  It is open primarily to juniors and seniors by invitation only.  Sponsors: Mr. Brozowski, Ms. Edwards

Music for a Cause

This club wants to raise money for different causes by playing music around the Jacksonville community. Sponsor: Ms. Solomon

National Art Honor Society

The Episcopal School of Jacksonville chapter plans many activities and field trips to reach out beyond the campus to share their passion for art. Membership is open to dedicated art students in the upper school who are enrolled in advanced placement or honors visual art courses, and who have a minimum average of B in the visual arts course, and an overall average of B. Sponsor: Mr. Kirk

National French Honor Society

Membership is open to upper school students who have completed at least three semesters of French and have earned at least an A- average in all of their French courses. They must also have an overall academic average of B. Sponsor: Ms. Merrill

National Honor Society

The NHS recognizes students for their accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Membership is open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12 by invitation only. (See the Parent/Student Handbook for membership criteria.)  Sponsors: Ms. Pritchard, Ms. Edwards

National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society

To be eligible for induction into the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society, students must be in Latin 2 or higher and have at least an A- grade point average in their Latin classes. These students must also be members of the Junior Classical League and exemplify good citizenship. Sponsor: Ms. Prendergast

P.R.I.S.M. (People Rising In Support of Multiculturalism)

PRISM meets to discuss issues of multiculturalism and current/historical events.  Sponsor: Ms. Van Cleve-Miller

Relay for Life Club

This club will raise money for research to cure cancer. Students will also participate in the Relay for Life event. Sponsor: Ms. Marks

Science Olympiad

This is a science competition team open to students in grades 9-12. Sponsor: Ms. Russo

Smile Club

This club wants to raise awareness and money for children who need surgery because they were born with clef lips and palates. Sponsor: Ms. Pauly

Spanish Honor Society

To be eligible for induction into Episcopal’s Jorge Luis Borges chapter of the Spanish Honor Society, a student must have an A- cumulative average in Spanish with no grade below a B. Additional criteria include character, leadership, cooperation, honesty and service to others. Sponsor: Ms. Hicks

The McKenzie Wilson Club

This club will help raise money and volunteer at events sponsored by The McKenzie Noelle Wilson Foundation. Sponsor: Ms. Kanaday

Tri-M Honor Society

This honor society is for students who excel in vocal and instrumental music. Sponsor: Ms. Solomon, Mr. Tippins

Upper School Chapel Tech

Students help run chapel from backstage! Learn how to operate projection, lighting, and sound boards. Sponsor: Ms. Elsila

Upper School Dance Ensembles

Students will audition for placement in September and then rehearse after school. Students will be cast in different pieces according to their strengths and then prepare for our Dance Concert.  Also, they are involved in several dance opportunities at school, around the Jacksonville community, and out-of-town. Sponsor: Ms. McCaughan, Mr. Morrow

Upper School Senate

The Upper School Senate plans school activities throughout the year, including Homecoming events, Winter Dance, and Spring Fest. Membership is by election only. Sponsors: Ms. Jimenez, Mr. Nash

Upper School Vestry

The Upper School Vestry exists to help plan and run chapels. The Chaplain appoints the Vestry and they meet weekly. Sponsor: Mother Hopie Jernagan

Upper School Worship Band

Upper School students meet weekly to prepare music for upper school Chapel. Sponsor: Mr. Bowers

All School

Angels for Allison

This club supports the Allison Haramis Foundation which provides funerals for families that have lost a child. Sponsor: Ms. Krueger

Chapel Techies

Students will learn how to operate projection, lighting, and sound boards. Also, they will help to run Chapel from backstage. Sponsor: Ms. Elsila

Daniel Club

This group volunteers at Daniel Memorial. They do various activities throughout the school year and during the summer they sponsor a week-long camp. Sponsors: Ms. Waler

Drumming Club

This club is an informal gathering of hand drummers at all levels of experience. Students will have the opportunity to hear and play rhythms from the Latin and Brazilian traditions. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Eagles for Autism

This club aims to raise awareness about Autism and to raise money for organizations with the same goals. Sponsor: Mr. Merrill

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

This is a club in which Christian athletes and non-athletes meet to support each other in the Christian faith through prayer, activities, and special events.  Sponsor: Mr. Collins

French Club

This club meets once a month to promote interest in the French culture. Sponsor: Ms. Ditzel, Ms. Merrill

Fuel

This group’s purpose is to give fun, healthy options to students on the weekends. They sponsor activities like dodge ball or basketball tournaments.  Sponsor: Ms. Rankin, Ms. Flint

German Club

This club meets once a month to promote interest in the German culture. Sponsor: Ms. Pritchard

Guitar Club

This club is open to all guitarists and students interested in finding out more about the instrument. This informal gathering allows students to exchange ideas, songs, and various playing techniques in a “Guitar Circle” format. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is open to students in grades 8-12.  Jazz, blues, and contemporary styles are introduced to the group. The Jazz Ensemble performs at the annual Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert.  Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Latin Club

The Latin Club meets once a month to promote interest in the Latin culture. There is a $5 membership fee. Sponsor: Ms. Prendergast

National Junior Honor Society

The NJHS is an organization that promotes recognition of students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Membership is by invitation only. (See the Parent/Student Handbook for membership criteria.) Members are inducted in the spring of their eighth grade year.  Sponsors: Ms. Cain, Mr. Jevic

Pep Band

The Pep Band is part of the larger instrumental ensemble and performs for sporting events on campus. Sponsor: Mr. Tippins

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club exists to increase awareness of Spanish culture. There is a $5 membership fee. Sponsor: Ms. Marks

Vocal Ensemble

Episcopal students interested in singing may enroll in the Concert Chorale class (grades 8-12) and/or participate in the after-school Vocal Ensemble (grades 6-12). Both groups are open to male and female singers. Sponsor: Ms. Solomon
