  • New York Public Library Digital Collections - NTPL Digital Collections include Digital Gallery, Africana and Black History, After Columbus and the Digital Gallery.The Gallery provides access to over 600,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library, including illuminated manuscripts, historical maps, vintage posters, rare prints and photographs, illustrated books, printed ephemera, and more. The section “More Image Collections" contain primary sources for many subject areas.
  • Old Magazine Articles - This database contains original magazine articles dating as far back as the American Civil War.
  • Palm Beach Coast Historic Archive

    For the first time, readers are now able to browse the earliest editions of The Palm Beach Post, as well as The Palm Beach Daily News, the Miami News, The (Palm Beach) Tropical Sun and The Palm Beach Independent.  This Historic Archive, made possible in partnership with Google, spans the years 1897 through 1988.Best of all, unlimited use of this important new historical resource is free and provided at no charge to the public. Reels of microfilm have been digitized to create the Historic Archive, which is fully searchable by keyword. Readers can zoom in on articles, move from page to page and create direct links to pages and articles of interest.


    A few things to note:

    The Historic Archive contains hundreds of thousands of pages, but it is not a complete collection. New editions and pages will be added on a periodic basis.

    The quality of the pages reflects the quality of the original microfilm.  Also, some pages are presented sideways.  Those will be corrected over time.

  • Primary Source Learning: Discover, Learn, and Teach with Digital Historical Documents - Launched in June 2006 and designed in conjunction with the Library of Congress, this endeavor enhances the use of primary sources in instruction across the curriculum by providing interactive learning tools and opportunities for sharing best practices. For example, one newly developed technology, call “primaryAccess,” allows teachers and students to create short digital movies using images and documents. Once completed, the films can be streamed online.
  • Veterans History Project -This is a project of the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress.Volunteers collect primary source accounts of the experiences of U.S. Veterans in World Wars I and II, Koreas, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq.Older students may even consider visiting a veterans hospital and conducting interviews to post online.The Web site has complete details on how to participate.
