9th Grade Orientation Adventure

Every fall, the freshmen class participates in the 9th Grade Orientation Adventure (9GOA) in Unicoi State Park, Helen, Georgia. The trip provides opportunities for social, emotional, and spiritual growth, as well as builds class unity.

Eleventh and twelfth graders serve as counselors, and faculty and staff chaperone. Counselors encourage the development of new friendships in order to develop a sense of mutual trust, respect, and appreciation among the group. Freshmen participate in white water rafting, hiking, camping, learn about wildlife, and prepare their own meals.

  • Hiking boots (not hiking shoes) are the only permissible footwear on the trip. Students who have new boots should wear them many times throughout the summer.  By breaking the boots in, the students are much less likely to get blisters on the trip.
  • If your child will be bringing prescription medication on the trip, the teachers and paramedics need to know. For each medication, please complete the Required Medications form and put it in a ziplock bag with the medication. The morning of trip, please give the bag to the teacher in charge of the bus. If you would like for your child to be responsible for administering his or her own medication, please indicate that choice on the form and put the form in the ziplock bag. Teachers will carry common over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, antacid tablets, and cough drops for students who may need those items.
  • Please call Marion Zeiner at 904.396.5751, ext. 1412, or email [email protected] if you have questions or concerns.
