Commander Family Supports Campaign

Lead the Way Gift Funds New Security Gatehouse

Episcopal is grateful to the Commander Family for its support of Lead the Way, specifically the planned security gatehouse at the entrance to the Munnerlyn Campus. Meg and Charles Commander and Charles’s parents, Vicky and Charlie Commander, have joined together to support the campaign in this effort. Meg and Charles have a daughter in tenth grade, Margaret, and a son, Tom, who will be a new student in the seventh grade next year. Charlie Commander served on Episcopal’s Board of Trustees in the 1970s.

“The security of the campus is important to our family,” said Meg Commander, “and we are pleased to help improve security in a way that also adds to the beauty of the campus.” Plans for the new entrance to the Munnerlyn Campus include this security gatehouse, an event lawn, landscaping, and wayfinding. The entrance is expected to be fully completed in the second half of 2017.

The new gatehouse will house the campus security officers who will be able to check in visitors upon their arrival to campus. Students and their families will have car decals which will allow them to proceed past the gatehouse to their destination. “This upgrade to the campus security is an important feature in the overall master plan for the school’s beautiful new entrance,” said Adam Greene, Head of School. “We’re very thankful to the Commanders and other donors who have shared our vision for the school’s ‘front door’.”
