Helper Helper App: Managing Community Service

Parents of 9th grade students,

Service and community involvement are very important aspects in the formation of our students at Episcopal. In order to have more time to find new opportunities and to help match students with their interests and talents, we are implementing a new platform called Helper Helper. We will begin implementation of this service tracking platform with the class of 2021 (current 9th graders). By August 2018, all Upper School students will use Helper Helper to view community service opportunities, commit to opportunities, and track their service hours.

Helper Helper is a customized smart phone application that each student will download. It may also be downloaded onto an iPad. This will make it easy, efficient, (and fun) for them to view, commit to opportunities, and track the community service hours they complete. As students electronically record and keep track of their service hours, they can immediately see how they are progressing towards – or past – the 100 service hour graduation requirement.

On Wednesday, November 15, all 9th graders will have an opportunity to download the Helper Helper app onto their phone or iPad. By being in attendance at the 9th grade meeting, they will also register for and earn their first half hour of service! If your student does not have a device with them or they are not able to download applications onto their device, please do so when they get home. Students will use their school email and password for the Helper Helper app.

We know that service encourages personal growth and that it is a fundamental component of the student experience. If you would like to learn more about the program your student will be using, please go to www.helperhelper.us. We look forward to using this app to more efficiently communicate service opportunities, sign up for these opportunities, and to view and manage students’ service hours.
