Renovated Girls' Locker Room Dedicated

The girls’ locker room in the Semmes Gym was renovated over the summer and was dedicated today in appreciation of the Hakimian family’s support of the school.

The Rev. Adam Greene, Head of School, spoke at the dedication. Athletic Department staff and current and former Girls Volleyball and Basketball team members were also in attendance.

“Hollin ’19 and I were passionate about two things: the young women who play basketball at ESJ having a comparable locker room facility to their male counterparts, and honoring ESJ, Hollin’s teammates and the girls’ basketball coaching staff — Head Coach Stacey Rutenberg and the Assistant Coaches Tommy and Kayla,” said Paige Hakimian, parent of Hollin ’19 and Board of Trustees member. “The girls’ basketball program is competitive and dedicated and we wanted a locker room that was reflective of honoring their hard work. There were two graduating seniors this past year, Hollin and Ana Ion, who committed to colleges to play basketball for the upcoming fall. We hope the upcoming teams, volleyball, and basketball, will recognize their value and the support they have from this community as they enjoy their new facility!”

Paige and Hollin were presented with Episcopal jerseys during the event.

The new locker room features full-sized wood-crafter lockers with seat cushions and private lockboxes, new flooring, new whiteboard, new storage cabinets, new coaches’ desk, and a new refrigerator.

“We are thankful to the Hakimian family for helping us upgrade our girls’ varsity locker room in the Semmes Gymnasium. Our girls’ locker room facility is now on par or better than many college locker room facilities. I know our girls and coaches will love it!” said Athletics Director Andy Kidd ’99.
