College Counseling: Beyond the Basics Series Kicks Off

College Counseling and the Parents’ Association hosted the first of four special interest sessions Thursday evening as part of the College Counseling: Beyond the Basics series. This first session, Less Stress, More Gain: Maintaining Mental Health and Wellness through the College Process and Beyond to College featured panelists Amy Burrows Perkins ’92, ESJ Director of Student Services, Dr. Kristin Alberts, Director of the Counseling Center at Jacksonville University, and Beth Mixson, former ESJ parent.

Panelists addressed several issues including: signs that a student might need help, factors that prevent a student from seeking help, why the college process creates anxiety, and how to reduce stress associated with the college process.

Upcoming sessions include: Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Ethics in College Admission; Monday, March 9, 2020, College Tours — Getting the Most Out of Your Campus Visit; Late April, TBD, Book Study: Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be by Frank Bruni. All sessions are offered 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
