Dear ESJ students and parents,

It is with tremendous excitement and anticipation that we announce the ESJ 2022 Mission Trip to the south border of Texas this summer.

The Rev. Teresa Seagle, Rev. Andy Farmer, Ms. Carolyn Tuttle, and the Rev. Chris Dell, will be leading a mission trip to South Texas from June 19, 2022, to June 25, 2022.  We will be working with YouthWorks (youthworks.com) to support immigrants and immigrant ministries.  We will partner with local organizations, including Border Perspectives, to better understand the complexity of immigration on the border.

We will serve at a local immigrant shelter alongside immigrant pastors and their congregations.  These opportunities will be eye-opening and will give us a first-hand look at ministry alongside immigrant communities.

Our work may entail cleaning, painting, yard work, and repairing their houses and schools.   In addition, we hope to work with children at a local shelter.  Our days will include morning and evening devotionals as well as worship experiences with the residents.  We will know our specific itinerary relative to their needs as we get closer to our departure date.

YouthWorks, a Christian organization, plans and organizes many mission trip groups throughout the year.  We will be staying at a church in Texas.  We will eat breakfast and dinner there on most days.  We will pack our own lunches each day to eat at our mission sites.

We will take up to 18 students on the mission trip.  Mission trip applications are attached, and are due by November 22, 2022. All current ESJ 8th through 12th graders are invited to apply. Students accepted for the mission trip must be of sound character and mature enough to be able to handle the responsibility and trust which we will place in them. Their attendance record, teacher recommendations, and approval from the school Honor and Discipline Councils will also play a part in the selection process.  Please note that applicants will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The cost of the trip will be approximately $2,200.  We are still finalizing the price of flights and ground transportation, but we hope to keep the cost below this. The cost of the trip includes airfare, room and meals, all ground transportation in Texas, emergency medical insurance, and ESJ chaperone accompaniment.

If you would like to be a part of the ESJ Texas Mission Trip, please complete the attached application and family commitment statement and submit them to The Rev. Teresa Seagle by November 22, 2021, along with a $750 deposit.  Please make checks out to the Episcopal School of Jacksonville – memo: Mission Trip 2022.  This $750 deposit will go toward the overall program cost, but will not be reimbursed if you decide to withdraw after the application deadline. The remaining balance for the trip is due in February 15, 2022.  If you have any further questions or would like to submit your application via email, please feel free to reach me at: [email protected]

Thank you for taking the time to fill out the attached applications, and be assured that further details will follow once the application process has been completed.

Sincerely,

The Rev. Teresa Seagle
