Freshman Orientation Adventure (9GOA) Reminders – August 10-13

Dear Parents of 9th graders,

The Freshman Orientation Adventure is just 3 weeks away! Counselors and teachers have been busy making plans to take the entire Freshman Class camping, hiking and whitewater rafting. Please note the following reminders:

  • Hiking boots (not hiking shoes) are the only permissible footwear on land during the trip. Students who have new boots should wear them many times throughout the summer. By breaking the boots in, the students are less likely to get blisters on the trip. Each student will also need a pair of closed-toed water shoes for stream activities.
  • All freshmen are required to attend the trip orientation in the Munnerlyn Center from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, which is the day before we leave on the trip. Students must wear their hiking boots to this meeting.
  • Freshmen should arrive at school on Wednesday, August 10, at 5:30 a.m. to board the buses to Georgia. There will be two locations for boarding the buses. During the orientation meeting on Tuesday, the students where they will board the bus.
  • If your child will be bringing prescription medication on the trip, the teachers and paramedics need to know. For each medication, please complete the attached form and put it in a ziplock bag with the medication. The morning of trip, please give the bag to the teacher in charge of the bus. If you would like for your child to be responsible for administering his or her own medication, please indicate that choice on the form and put the form only in the ziplock bag. Teachers will carry common over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, antacid tablets and cough drops for students who may need those items.
  • Please call me at the school or send me an email if you have questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Marion Zeiner
