Job Shadow

In the spring of 2017, Jack Thompson ’19 approached his father, Rich Thompson, The Adecco Group’s Regional Head of HR for North America, UK and Ireland, and Heather Newman Johnson ’90, Episcopal’s Director of Alumni Relations, with the idea of creating a job shadow experience for Episcopal students. As Episcopal strives to prepare students for college and career, Jack believed students could benefit from being in a corporate setting, exploring different fields of interest, and that these experiences might help his fellow students as they begin to think about possible college majors and career paths.

That summer, Episcopal’s Career Launcher program teamed up with The Adecco Group, the world’s largest staffing company, to provide job shadowing experiences for Upper School students.

Through the job shadow program, selected students experience the day to day operations of a job in many fields such as legal, accounting/finance, marketing, information technology, and human resources.

“Episcopal is grateful to Adecco and especially Rich Thompson, for providing this unique experience to our students,” said Heather. “This opportunity provides an authentic work experience not offered inside a regular high school classroom and gives students access to meaningful work in the corporate world. The ESJ Job Shadow Experience with The Adecco Group is a core strength of our Career Launcher program which offers career resources to students and alumni.”

Career Launcher, a resource for alumni transitioning from college to career, was created by Episcopal’s Alumni Association with the goal of helping alumni early in their careers by providing opportunities and resources exclusively to Episcopal alumni.
