Cross Country Program
Cross Country consists of athletes from sixth through twelfth grades. Over the years the teams have established themselves as consistent contenders in the top twenty in the State (including five State Championships since 2000).
About the Coaches
Stacy Brunell has been coaching for eight years, five of which have been at Episcopal. Currently, she is the head coach for the girls’ cross country team, as well as the head coach for the Middle School track team. Before her time at Episcopal, Coach Brunell coached at Seattle Prep High School, St. Joseph’s High School and Providence School. She attended the University of Washington where she majored in speech communications and was amember of the cross country and track teams. During her time as a collegiate athlete, she was a Pac 10 Track finalist and received the “Most Inspirational” award. At UW she met her husband, Mark Brunell, who played in the NFL for 19 years. They have four children: Caitlin, Jake, Joseph ‘17 and Luke ‘20.
Emily Manning has been coaching for four years and is starting her third year at Episcopal this fall. As the head coach for the boys’ cross country team, Coach Manning was able to lead the team to a state meet in 2015. Before joining ESJ, Coach Manning assisted The Bolles School girls’ cross country team to a state title in 2014. Emily attended Hanover college for her undergraduate degree before going on to Emory University for her MTS and Duquesne for her Ph.D. In her spare time, Coach Manning can be found at 1st place Running Sports Running in San Marco.
