Episcopal is one of the few schools in the local community that offers a boys’ developmental Junior Varsity Program and is also one of the few that is led by PGA Golf Professionals. Both the Boys and Girls Varsity teams routinely compete for District, Regional, and State Championships. In 2016, our boy's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place in the State tournament.
Many former golf athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate and professional level on various platforms. Our most notable alum is the former number one ranked player in the world and PGA Tour Member David Duval.
About the Coaches
Mark Tutor has been coaching high school golf for three years and is currently the head boys varsity coach. Prior to joining the Eagles, Coach Tutor was involved with player development for 10 years. He has been a PGA member for 17 years. He is the former director of golf at both Grand Haven Golf Club and North Hampton Golf Club. In the 2014-2015 season, Mark won the Senior Choice coach’s award at ESJ. Coach Tutor has said that “coaching and teaching the game of golf as the girls’ golf coach at ESJ was a wonderful blessing. Golf is an individual sport that can be played for a lifetime and teaches so many life skills along the way. Playing as a part of a high school golf team is an experience that the players will never forget and will create fond memories of team, sportsmanship and competition.”
Grace Hurley is in her first year of coaching at Episcopal. She is also the lead buyer for the golf pro shop at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. Although this is her first time coaching, she comes from an impressive golf background. She attended the University of Idaho, where she played golf all four years. During her freshman year at the University of Idaho, she had the highest GPA of any freshman golfer in the nation. Coach Hurley is involved in several charities, including Birdies for the Brave and an instructor at the Adaptive Sports Program.
