Grammar is an integral component of English at Episcopal, and students’ writing and language skills benefit from a strong foundation in grammar. This course is designed to reinforce and solidify a learner’s existing grammar knowledge or to jump start his or her grammar mastery. This four-day summer workshop focuses on parts of speech, compliments, and phrases and will provide opportunities to apply these skills to writing activities. The goal is for each child in the class to be well prepared for his/her English class when the school year begins.

Building Bridges Middle School - Grades 6 - 8

The Middle School Bridges orientation program provides new sixth-through-eighth-grade students a jump-start on the school year. This is a four-day experience which serves to introduce new students to one another and orient them to the Episcopal culture and campus.  The students will play games and activities, as well as learn helpful study techniques. Lunch will not be provided. Taught by Mrs. Kneale and Mrs. Buford.

Algebraic Foundations (Morning) - Grades 6 - 8

This class will review the major concepts to be covered in 312 Pre-algebra, allowing for a better understanding of the concepts when they are introduced later in the regular school year. This class is open to all students but is mostly directed towards students who will be taking 312 Pre-algebra.

MS Study Skills - Grades 6 - 8

This class will cover topics such as test taking, note-taking, and study strategies. It’s intended to introduce successful techniques to students to make them more efficient in academic preparation. Students will have a supervised area to eat lunch in if they are attending one of the math prep classes in the morning.

Algebra 1 Prep - Grades 8 - 10

This class is open to all students but is mostly directed towards students who will be taking 315 Algebra 1, and 316 Honors Algebra 1. This class will review the major concepts to be covered in 315 Algebra 1, allowing for a better understanding of the concepts when they are introduced later in the regular school year. This class is excellent for students who feel they need a better understanding of basic Algebraic concepts before they are officially covered later in the year. 

Algebra 2 Prep - Grades 8 - 11

This class will review the major concepts to be covered in 318 Algebra 2 and 319 Honors Algebra 2. The study of polynomial, rational, radical, and exponential functions are all introduced, along with the skills needed to better execute more challenging word problems. This class is open to all Upper School students but is mostly directed towards students who will be taking 318 Algebra 2 and 319 Honors Algebra 2. 

Geometry Prep - Grades 8 - 10

This class will review the major concepts to be covered in 325 Geometry 1. Skills required for critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving through proof-writing will be introduced, along with a review of the Algebraic skills needed to be successful.
This class is open to all students but is mostly directed towards students who will be taking 325 Geometry.

SAT Prep Math - Grades 9 - 12

This week long course is intended for the student who is looking to improve his or her score on the quantitative section of the SAT. Emphasis will be placed not only on content and type of questions asked but also on strategies and test-taking skills.

SAT Prep Verbal - Grades 9 - 12

This course has been designed to hone the verbal test-taking skills primarily of students taking the SAT exam for the second time. Each class will include a practice test, review of previous practice tests, and a discussion of test-taking strategies. The course will cover the central skills necessary for success on the Critical Reading section (sentence completions and passage-based analysis) and the Writing Section (improving sentences and paragraphs, identifying sentence errors and writing a clear, coherent essay.)
